She felt him. Not on her skin, though she would love to do so. But deep within her heart at the core of all she was. He was a part of her now. And there was no explanation that she could find. He had scaled her carefully constructed defenses effortlessly. With the surprise she finds in his eyes, she knows he didn’t do so intentionally. She never expected the invasion so she never thought to reinforce the walls. Perhaps that was the key to gaining such intimate entry into her being. It can’t be forced with strong will and determination. It can’t be approached with the end goal in mind. It has to happen with no reward as motivation. He gave himself selflessly to her, one moment, one word, and one breath at a time. He never asked her for anything in return. Not even a smile. When she didn’t believe in herself, he quietly and courageously believed for her. At her weakest, she felt him solidly behind her with gentle hand upon her back acknowledging her fear but banishing her loneliness. He had no way of knowing that by helping her stand tall, she would still fall … for him.
